Yes. My Pooky Bunny got his angel wings yesterday. Wednesday night I could tell it was going to happen. He was a lil old for a bunny...He started acting very weird, like he didn't know what was going on. He was moving very slowly and acted out of it. I picked him up and said "Hey, you. We have been friends for almost eight years now. I know we love each other a great deal. Our lives are going to be different after you make this transition. But I don't want you to stick around for me. I will be sad, but I will be OK."
Thanksgiving day I continued to check on him every hour or so. He acted very much like he wanted to be left alone, so I closed the door to his wire cage. (it was usually left open for him to hop in and out at will) Last night I was on the phone with a friend and realised it was time to check him. I went to the side of his cage and he tried to hop to me, but he was too weak. I think he was trying to say good bye. Then, he laid down and died. I know there was communication between us. I was his caregiver for almost eight years. He brought tons of joy to me at a time that was very lonely. You can't have that sort of love without knowing what's in eachother's heart. He may not have understood verbatim, but he knew what I meant.

I talk to my cats and yes I think they do understand some of what I say. They know when I say no but they have selective hearing when it comes to that word. They know what out means and come here. They also talk back to me sometimes by meowing. Of course I don't know what they are saying. LOL.

Yes, all the time. I know my dog understands me because when she is sitting in the kitchen doorway I say, " You know what I going to say don't you? Then she gets up and moves out of the doorway. Only to sit in another doorway. : )

Of course.
And my cats may not understand exactly what I say.
But they understand the feelings behind the words.

Yes and yes. We used to have a yellow lab who would bring back whichever toy we told him to get. He would bring that toy and ONLY that toy, and it was never the same one twice.
