The Watusi, or Tutsi people are the tall tribes that lived in the mountains and highlands whereas the Hutus are the tribes that lived on the plains, In past times the Hutus were (as I have been told) vassals to the Tutsi people. This tribal difference was fostered by the colonial powers and is one of the contributing factors to the terrible tribal war that broke out in the 1990's.
It is interesting to note that many apologists for colonialism or just racists underline tribal warfare and ethnic bickering as reasons for Africa's woes yet they fail to point out that the colonial powers and also the apartheid regime followed a deliberate policy of promoting tribalism.... "divide et imperat", divide and rule.....
