Yong people suffer most from depressions because they do not have work experience so are less likely to get a job, and probably do not have a secure one. Even at the worst of the depression in the 1930's 76% had jobs and most of the time 90% did. However people were afraid of losing their jobs and would take pay cuts and work extra to keep them. Many jobless men left their families in order to find work in other cities and if they were unsucessful, lived on the streets and ate at soup kitchens. Here is a graph of average income in the US since 1917.

As you can see the average income went down during the depression, but people were poor by todays standards before it happend also, so you should imagine a decline from where we are now, not what it was like then.

I have been suffering from post partum depression for the past one year when I gave birth to a baby boy. I couldn't stop thinking about how my husband loves him more than me and how things might be better if he wasn't born at all. Thus, I stayed away from him because I knew that I might do something I will regret for the rest of my life.
Almost instantly I went to a therapist and convince them that I need help. Among other things, I've tried herbal supplements and other book to treat depression but nothing works like the Depression Free Method. So now I'm proud to say I'm one of the happiest mother in the world. My husband loves us both very much and I thank the Lord for the blessing he gave us.
Depression Free Method?

no more technology, no internet, etc, all will be bankrupt. much simpler times, back to the old ways of our grand parents. more home cooked meals, hand-me-downs, mending old clothes, walking, biking, cutting every corner possible to save every cent possible, home hair cuts, gardens for vegetables, less expensive foods, soups, pot of beans, corn bread, eggs, potatoes, peanut butter / jelly sandwiches, starvation, thirst, robberies, thefts. now days it would be every man for himself. in the old days people helped each other out. i feel it would be a time like the los angeles riots, a very sad time that was indeed, but more world spread. i feel the poor countries will survive better the the ones with more technology, and money. i feel this because they are more prepared to live the way they have in the past, most of the u.s.a. aren't prepared due to being spoiled to a better life, not knowing how to fend for themselves in tough times. i could go on, but i'm not even sure i'm giving you anything you really can use. good luck to you. i'm sure you will be able to pull together a good grade. this is an interesting subject.

If the oil producing countries in the world banded together to launch an economic war against the US (they have been talking about it), that could do it. What would the effect of $10 a gallon of gas be on our economy?
Another way is for countries of the world to decide to not use the dollar as a global standard anymore (they have been talking about this too), and switch to the Euro.
Another way is for global investors to lose confidence in our economy, and pull out of our stock market, and sell all their investments and treasury bills.
Enjoy

I'm pretty sure that similar and worse things would happen than in the 1930's when it originally happened. People would loose their houses and lots of people would loose their jobs.

Lots of people would die from sheer lack of survival skills. (e.g. common sense.)
