Any time I ask them, they always say they don't want anything. But obviously I'm going to get them nothing. What are good gifts to get for parents? Should I make something?

Something really thoughtful to show that you notice them. For example, if you notice that your father needs some new tool, get it. Or, if your mom could use a new sweater.

Show them you care about their safety by making them an emergency pack or an alarm system (if you have money). If not, mini-flashlights that attach to their keychains?

If you have zero money, you can still give a memorable gift by getting or making a small booklet or photo album and write down all the loving memories you have about them. I did this for my mom and she hugged it tightly and said it was the best gift she ever received.

I recounted all the moments, large and small, that I remember about her and how they affected me. For example, I watched her feed and care for a latchkey little girl who just lost her mother to cancer and that made me more compassionate toward others. She used to play piano and sing and that made me want to play. I told her how she had the most beautiful hands and nails and when I paint my nails, I think of her and how she worked hard to care for us, washing clothes, cooking, etc. I recall how she stormed down to the local school to stand up for my sister when a teacher was unfair. All those types of things.

Tell them you're thankful for being great parents. I guarantee, your parents will cherish that gift forever.

Merry Christmas!

It's difficult to answer with so little information. Do they live on a fixed income? If so, help with the little things that add up...renew their newspaper, magazines, a nice basket with an assortment of needed supplies, envelopes, stamps, batteries for hearing aids if they use them, vitamins, etc.
If they are still mobile and get out alot, a dinner for two at a nice quiet place that serves their favorite foods. Maybe a dinner show.
A weekend stay somewhere not to far maybe where they are having a band they would like to hear.
Do they play bingo? Give them 'bingo money' (cash) to play with. Wrap it with a new bingo t-shirt for each of them to wear.
Parents always love pictures. Maybe you could make a memory album of all pictures of you from when you were born until now. Are they grandparents? Make an album of your kids.
Drink coffee? Make coffee mugs with pictures of you or your children on them, or if they have a favorite dog put the dog's pic on the mugs.
Wrap around snuggle blankets for each of them to keep warm in the evenings and a few new movies and a box of crunch and munch for each.
New matching bathrobes and slippers.
Subscriptions for Reminisce Magazine, or maybe that one for your father and Taste of Home magazine for your mom.
Do they love bird watching? A bird bath, bird house, or bird feeder with a book that shows the birds in their area. Could put it close to the house near a large window. A pair of binoculars to help watch the birds, or a camera to take pictures.

If you have a printer on your computer and some photos, you could make a calendar for 2008.
Use your favorite family's photos for each month, like a photo of who has a birthday or whatever that month.
My niece did that once and her dad really liked it.

get them something pertaining to something you know they like. for example, if your mom loves to cook, get her a new kitchen gadget. i'm sure whatever you get them, they'll appreciate it because it's from their child, and even more so because you cared enough to find something to get them rather than not getting anything at all, due to them saying "nothing."
