I am wanting a new computer but not sure to go with a lap top or desk top. I want to be able to use a printer and digital cam, play games, internet all that stuff. Which is better??? and does a laptop do the same things as a desktop?

The only game that I really need to be able to play is medal of honor.

Here are some pros and cons of both.
Laptop:
Pros: mobile and that's about it
Cons: by far more expensive, overheating issues causing shutdowns if left on for a lengthy amount of time, having to recharge the battery, laptops buttons and connections wear out quicker due to mobility, more expensive to repair and upgrade, less bang for your buck
Desktop:
Pros: cheaper, more bang for your buck (better gaming ability due to video card capability), cheaper to get repaired if something goes wrong, cheaper to upgrade, more hard drive space generally, easier to upgrade parts on your own.
Cons: bulky, lack of mobility

The Dell Inspiron 1501 would not be a good choice for a game such as Medal of Honor. The Dell XPS would suit you better if you are strongly considering a laptop PC versus a desktop. One, the laptop is typically restrictive with the amount of memory, two the video in the 1501 is integrated not a video card with it's own memory. This configuration will borrow from you laptop RAM. 1024 MB RAM is the bare minimum, performance wise, you should have for Vista OS. But with integrated video you won't have 1024 MB of RAM. The Turion CPU is similar to the Intel Celeron. The lower priced CPU. The HDD, even at 160 GB is slow, 5400 RPM.
My guess is that you want the least expensive PC you can find whether it be a laptop or desktop to play your Medal of Honor game. You would be better off purchasing a low priced desktop with either an AMD x64 CPU or Intel x64, at least a 256 MB video card.
Will a laptop do the same things as a desktop? Well, yes but not as efficiently. Will you be able to play Medal of Honor as well on the 1501 as well as you can on a Dell Optiplex? Maybe, but more than likely the desktop will be better suited than the desktop.
Much depends on the components, the quality of the components, and how much expense you're willing to spend for those components. To play games such as Medal of Honor I would start looking at Dell Dimension PC's and I wouldn't opt for Vista. I would insist on XP Professional.
Comparitively, you can print with either a laptop or desktop, as well as use a digital cam, play games, and surf the Internet. Lean toward the desktop though for more power than the laptop.

In general, a laptop in the same price range as a desktop is not a comparable PC. The desktop will be faster with more features. Laptops tend to wear out / become outdated faster than desktops.
Both are capable of doing what you indicate you want to do with your new PC.
Get a laptop because you need portability or lack the space for a desktop.
Get a desktop because you need the most power for your dollar.

The only downside with a desktop is that it is not portable. But they have all the same functionality on both. The desktops will have the bigger disk space though and will probably be quicker in most cases. Laptops are power savers though, they use a lot less power than desktops.
Most printers and digital cameras and all other peripherals are USB based now, so all you have to do is buy a USB hub and connect everything there. Then if you decide to buy a laptop, all you have to connect is that 1 USB hub to your laptop when you need it.

They all can do about the same, desktops tend to have a bit more raw power, but laptops are portable so that trades off.
Really, the only question is do you need it to be portable or not. If no, then a desktop will get you more for your buck.

i would get a laptop so you could go ani where with it, instead of sitting in the same place, plus you get a tiny bit more privacy with the laptop since you can fold the top up & down. the laptop SHOULD do the same thing as the desktop but you have to have the right system to do wireless printing hope this helps

The HP entertainment laptop model does all of the things you mentioned and works great. I bought it in February and have only one problem; Windows Vista. I hate Vista and so I am going convert to Window XP. When I buy my next laptop I am going to ask them to down grade to another Windows program because Vista really sucks. If you go for a laptop I think its the best one.

Laptop will do all the things as desktop, but normally will cost more to get all of the features.
