Please answer....anyone with exprince or any nurses of doctors that are available???
Ok here it is.... I am 17 years old and I have been anemic for quite some time now! My hemoglobin levels stay between
6.8 - 8.2!!! And the amount of iron that is on my body is to the point of non existance( this is what my doctor said) my iron level is less then 1! I have had numerous tests over the past few months for example....a colonoscopy, and endoscopy, a stool test and a lot of blood tests and each time my results get lower!! All of my other tests were fine excpt my blood tests which continue to drop!! My doctor does not know why my levels are so low I don't have heavy periods!!!! I have been taking 325mg of iron twice a day for 7 months and it has not helped i guess that i have an absorption problem. I eat pretty healthy!!! My doctor wants me to come back in this week so she can deide what to do from here!!!

What other tests might she do.......? I think that i have done every test!!

Oh and My B12 levels are fine!!!

Well, usually with anemia the most major problem would be bleeding from somewhere. Have they checked your kidneys and spleen? My first thought was you weren't absorbing B12, and have pernicious anemia, but you say they are fine. If they haven't checked your kidneys and spleen ask them to do it. How do you feel otherwise? I know you are probably tired and short of breath. Have the doctors checked your Bone Marrow? If not, ask for it. You could have some sort of a blood disorder at that level. I wish you the best of luck, and I hope this helped. Try to smile through all of this, I know it's not fun.

Are you taking a multi- vitamin with iron? You need to be eating lots of green leafy veggies and getting exercise. Your doctor may have to try some daily injections of iron or some medications that help you absorb iron.
Good luck and I hope you get better soon, if it drops to low you will need to go into the hospital.

She might want to investigate if you are losing iron - eg. in your menstrual period or in your bowel

- oh - I see, you mention you've had a stool test and endoscopy/colonoscopy

She might want to see what happens if you have an injection of iron
