While, original, I don't think I would have named my baby that. Consider when he's in biology and they start learning about the DNA Helix.
A helix (pl: helices), from the Greek word ÎλικαÏ/Îλιξ, is a twisted shape like a spring, screw or a spiral (correctly termed helical) staircase. Helices are important in biology, as DNA is helical and many proteins have helical substructures, known as alpha helices.

I'd expect him to have a twin named Double. ;) The literal "twisted" associated meaning would also be a concern. Just not a word I'd have used as a name, personally. Seems randomly, well ... random. LOL
Felix, on the other hand, would have been quite handsome.
Ps. I am hoping you're asking if anyone "knows the meaning" simply to see if it's as familiar a term as you already realize it is, and not because you DON'T and honestly wanted to know. ;)

See the definition at MW: http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/Helix
It is too close to the name Nelix, a character in Star Trek Voyager.
Good Luck,

I don't like it for a kid, it reminds me too much of DNA and science. I have definitely never heard it before.
