Climate is usually the indicator of ideal roof shape. Perhaps tilt it a bit higher if you believe that global warming might result in higher rainfall or more torrential downpours.

Simple gable with big overhandsand at least a 3 or 4/12 pitch.. It's cheaper to build and with the overhangs, it drops the water further away from the foundation. I had some made in Los Angeles that were 55 foot span, made out of flat 2x4's and used thin wall pipes for the webs. I didn't have to use any supports below and had a big open floor.

I like the look of a hip roof but it depends on your climate and the style of the house.
An "A" frame roof on a contemporary house would look funny they usually have a flat roof.

In general the fewer changes of slope (avoid gambrels and L-sections) the less chance of leaks at the changes in slope.
If you have special circumstances like a roof raised to make living space in the attic then you can't avoid some unusual shapes, but in general uniform steep slopes are easiest to install, repair, and avoid leaks on.
