Going to buy new computer over internet. I heard bad stories about vista. Like requires alot of memory, old programs don't work, old hardware problems etc. My question. Should i go with vista or windows xp professional. I'm thinking windows xp professional seeing how they offer it. Finally which processor Intel duo 6750 or quad 6600. Quad is more so i'm thinking 6750. Finally plan on going with 2 gb and 500mb harddrive. Oh they do offer windows xp media if i wanted that.

They offer both windows xp professional 32 bit and 64 bit. But i don't really understand bits. So which one is better.

XP PRO if they offer it. I’ve been in this field (well the IT field) for 15 years and Vista at this point is a pretty horrible OS. Seems like Microsoft has taken a step backwards on this OS kind of works liks Windows 98 if you ask me, slowww, unresponsive to any non shrink software and peripherals and to the gaming person that i am i not going to say a word about that but uggghhh.
The other ? you have about processors is kind of a simple answer. If you plan on using your computer for hardcore gaming then get the best they can offer if your going to use this pc for everday surfing then save yourself some cash and go with a lower end intel processor.

XP professional all the way with the option to upgrade once they get all the bugs out of Vista and the software programmers know how to utilize all the corrections to run their programs more efficiently.

This is the setup.....I even had them split my hard drive with an even 50/50 partition so I could dual boot later as an option until I get real comfortable with Vista. If it dies because of some unknown issue you could always fall back to XP, until you get the problem repaired.

Go with Core 2 duo since there are very few progams that will take advantge of the Quad core at this stage.

There arn't many apps that will be advantaged by using Windows 64 bit either. Altough you would be able to use up to 8GB of RAM

32 bit just means that the CPU can process 32 bits of code per CPU clock cycle and 64 bit means 64 bits per cycle.

I would go with XP Professional if they offer it. Vista is like a premature baby that was released into the world before it was fully developed, but that's Microsoft for you.
