During my orientation at Ohio State, one of the speakers quoted a recent poll by one of the Ivy League schools (I think it was Yale). They found the the most recognizable college in the world was Harvard University. Number two was Ohio State, and that's because of Ohio State football.

With the sheer number of alumni and their families, Ohio State is one of the MOST popular teams in the country. Ohio State has one of the largest student bodies, and thus one of the largest alumni bases of any school. All of the apparent hatred (99% of which is on the internet, by the way) comes from other fans of other teams not liking them because they're consistently good, and are beating up on their favorite team. The teams on top always have the most anti-fans, that's just the way it is. But if you polled the country, I'm sure you'd find that Ohio State has more fans than almost every school.

I think the hatred of OSU peaked last year, when there was all the discussion about an OSU - Michigan national championship game. After the bowls, it became very clear that these were not the best two teams, and called into question the strength of the Big 10. So when the semi-rabid Bucks fans started raving this year, the semi-rabid other fans dissed them big time.

I don't think they are hated anymore than USC, Florida, LSU, Notre Dame, Miami, or any other team that has had a lot of success and a loud fan base. But after last year, there will always be people who will question their ability until they win a major bowl game.

simple as that.

the #1 ranked team in the country usual does. Especially if people feel that you don't deserve to be there. There isn't one team that deserves a #1 ranking right now. They should throw out the rankings and let the top eight BCS teams play some playoffs. The Div I-AA schools just started this weekend so there's enough time to finish before the semester ends.

yes, people do hate ohio state, but its because they are so good every single year. People hate who is on top. Who else has been to five BCS games in 7 years?Nobody. There is going to be even more hate here in a few weeks when people come to grips with Ohio State playing in their third national title game in 7 years.

many people doesn't give OSU credit or say the Big 10
is weak but with OSU losing many players to the draft, they weren't expected to kick butt this year. It seems like the big
boys teams not doing that good this year so OSU is as
capable as any other team in playing in the National
Championship!
