In 2003 Prior went 18-6... injuries have obviously stalled his talent. Your thoughts?

i really think as long as he dont quit mentally the doctors can eventually make him 85-90% of what he was. Which is still a good #2 or 3 pitcher, but not the ace he could have been.

If he's lucky he will be a quality starter, but he will never be the dominant starter he should have been before the injuries.

He didn't throw the ball well the past couple of seasons before he had arm surgery last year, so I think that even though he's only 27, his best years are already behind him. Prior is a smart guy so he should be able to make it by changing speeds and making adjustments, so he can still have a decent career. His stuff though is nowhere near what it was.

He could still end up being a middle of the rotation 12-15 game winner, but he needs a fresh start somewhere other than Chicago. He obviously needs to stay healthy as well, which is about as likely as the Cubs winning the world series.

definitely
if Chris Carpenter came back from crappy seasons in Toronto and injuries to have 3 great years in St. Louis with 2 seasons being Cy Young worthy, then Mark Prior can also come back

if Glendon Rusch comes back from almost dying and has about 10 teams looking into signing him, then Mark Prior can definitely come back

Absolutely....He tried to pitch with a bad arm for 3 years because Baker, and management, and the papers and everybody else was calling him a sissy, and a baby, and sometimes worse. Remember JR Richard?

He was hurt...many guys nowadays, come back often better than before the operation. College kids and minor leaguers get TJ surgery before thy really need it now, because their elbow is stronger afterward.

Will he be better...doubtful, because he was so great before, however, I'd bet the house that after rehab and 20 starts or so, he'll be a better than solid pitcher.

Remember when everyone mentioned how his mechanics were perfect and he threw "easy gas"? He STILL got hurt which shows you that you can do everything right and get hurt. He has a better chance than most people in his situation because of his mechanics but I think he'll end up being a setup man or closer one day if he does come back. It's really sad too because he could have won 250+ games.

Well theres that posibility, but I doubt that he will. If anything he will be a solid pitcher out of the bullpen much like Kerry Wood.

Theres a chance he can. Won't be like his old self. But he'll be good, not great. But good.

i think the best he'll end up is a reliever in the pen.
