Why does the West fear Iran is secretly trying to build atom bombs?

According to Iran, their purpose is to provide the country electricity from uranium enrichment.

Unfortunately there are too many in the middle east that lack self control, so that answer just isn't good enough.

They'll be strapping all kinds of cr@p to themselves and travel the world blowing themselves and everyone else up when it "tickles their fancy".

Using nuclear energy would not only provide more electricity, but it would also free up more oil for export to China, Japan and western nations. In fact, the United States started Iran's first research reactor in the 1970s for this very reason.

The West fears Iran might be developing nuclear technology for THE CAPABILITY of creating nuclear weapons, considering their secretive past regarding the nuclear issue.

But consider that postrevolutionary Iran has never been in good standing with the Western world, so it comes at no surprise that they would keep such a thing secret.

Also, Iran is one of the biggest victims of weapons of mass destruction (from Iraq) and actively campaigns against them so it would be highly contradictory for them to develop AND use nuclear weapons.

I don't trust the leaders of Iran to not use a nuclear weapon on Israel. There is a hatred there of the Jews that goes beyond rational thinking that many don't understand. The situation is different than when the US and USSR faced off. during the Cuban Missile Crisis one many was poised with orders to fire at US warships. He didn't because he understood exactly what was at stake, the world. I fear that the leaders of Iran do not understand that if nuclear war breaks out, there is no winner there for they will show no restraint in using such a weapon.

Do you remember Hiroshima and Nagasaki? The world was changed by those two events. Having the capability to strike fear into the hearts of men keeps the west's enemies on their toes. Imagine what would happen if the whole world was given that strength? At least the west does not share this power with one of it's annoying allies.

confident, we had an atom bomb by potential of 1945 after years of examine and coming up the centers to construct them. Germany grow to be real at the back of us and if we hadn't saved up a delicate bombing of their centers, we'd be speaking German now. that they had the technologies. i'm particular Iran does additionally yet they are interior the approach of going underground with the centers to start the actual development of their bomb. in about one year........ if none of their 3000 centrifuges break down.......... they may have enough uranium ...
to make one bomb......... then they will have to work on a delivery system......... I have it from good sources ........ they are building a giant catapult...... a new improved model with a range of more than 200 yards......... the fear is that they will sell this weapons system to less developed countries who for lack of technology may blow themselves up .......................I suspect in 50 years any country in the world that wants a bomb will have one..................................

From what i understand every ohter country is Sunni, they are shiites. A fellow fell in a well and theri president said he will come out and set things right it they get in a war. So that's why they weird out, but is the media telling the truth? they really need refineries. Possibly Jim carter could go and straighten it out. take care.

Well if old Almoud Mah..blah whats his name didn't say "Israel should be wiped from the pages of time" I wouldn't de worried. If He didn't hold that holocaust meeting for the purpose of discovering the "truth" behind the holocasut I wouldn't be worried. They are working over time to get enriched uranium. Where is the construction on actual atomic power plants? There are none. No hurry to make power plants leaves only one other use for the uranium.

Iran is not going to nuke the US, unless they want 25 million Iranian 'martyrs'. The world's largest nuclear arsenal is a pretty good deterrent.
