We were able to use home insemination without going to expensive doctors. We went step by step by a book called "Artificial Insemination on a Budget". The book cost us under $25.00. It is an e-book. It gives great advice on a lot of things including legal forms when using an outside sperm donor. We have two boys now. One is 5 and the other is 15 months and is currently fussing. :)

I don't know where you are but the infertility clinic at Thomas Jefferson university hospital in Philadelphia has a procedure designed for couples who have a low sperm count, ask your obgyn if there is something like that near you - good luck

Have you gone to the doctors for help with this yet. I believe sex would have a better chance than self-insemination. God intended it that way. Good luck!

well you'd have to insert it near the cervix so you'd have to use something similar to a baster. i don't know how effective this will be.
why don't you just save a few hundred dollars and have it done professionally. it'll cost about $500.
and he should be taking a multivitamin with zinc, no tight briefs, boxers only, no hot tubs or bicycling.
i don't know how low his count is but it really only takes one and if you time sex well you may still have a good chance of getting pregnant naturally.
all the best.

in case if you ever want to try to apply for coverage by insurance, Health Net in California wanted the following info to apply for prior authorization:
documentation of how long patient has been trying (if no male partner, prove that patient has paid for and failed 6 previous artificial insemination);
tests within the last 6 month: FSH, estradiol, progesterone for the female, semen analysis for the male
