in pc2 ddr2 6400 instead of the 5300 that came with the pc? Could there be any potential hazards to the computer in doing this?

no but its doubtful there will be benefits and if the pc doesnt actually support the speed it will run at the slower speed and could remotely cause some errors .. but prolly not ..

There is a slight chance it would work, but most likely the higher speed ram will not be compatible with your motherboard. I just bought a HP half a year ago, (a1632x) and I tried to install higher speeds than it came with, but the computer did not start. But there are other risks such as burning out parts in your computer, so I would not recommend that you put the higher speed ram in.

Hi. They are backward compatible, but as your first answer said the machine will only work at its potential. If you mix the two speeds it will run at the slowest.
