Anyone know the name of this kids series? Was on around 1985-1990?

I cant remember much, its not a cartoon, but theres an old man homeless or just dirty looking? that lived in a hole under the ground, but his home looked like an underground room in the park and i think a young boy would visit him? i hope someone knows what it is. Thanks in advance.

only thing I can think of that's even close is a kiddie series called LIDSVILLE. Don't know if that's the one you wanted. I think Paul Lynde was in it.
