The best thing to do is first check with your Mom and Dad, and then get an Entry Lockset. Its a doorknob type of lock that comes with a set of keys, one for you and one for your parents. Good Luck, ;-)

It's not logical. You are no safer than you are with it unlocked. I mean, a burglar still has to get through all the other locked doors before he even thinks about getting to yours. And besides, what if someone came in your window? It's a lot easier to get in a window than a door. And then you'd be fumbling in the dark for the lock on your door, unable to get out, unable to let anyone know there's someone in your room... But the reason it probably bothers your family is that they probably think you're sneaking out, and just locking your door so they can't check to make sure you're there.

I had the same trouble with my brother, Daniel.
There should be a relatively cheap sliding bolt lock at the local hardware store. There are also sets with the lock in the door knob, but those are harder to install and more expensive.
Do your parents know about this?

Ya, a simple door wedge should do the trick. You can make one yourself in 5 minutes or less. Take a 6" piece of 2x4 and cut it at a 45 degree angle from 1 corner to the opposite cross corner...

yeppers, you can get a cheap 1 at a hardware store, its a screw eye and a latch that hooks through it, you have to put em in yourself but they are real cheap, both jus screw in one in the door and one in the frame not sure what they are called now, maybe some1 else knows that, but the latch looks like 7 on its side, the lil top part goes into the screw eye, (a lil round circle with a threaded end that screws in)

A big wedge under the inside of the door will work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Heard a lot of travellers put one in their luggage incase someone opens the lock on the door too.

Simple/ easy/ cheap....a slide bolt and catch. Nothing difficult at all and cannot be locked when the room isn't occupied.
