why is it so hard to put a pet to sleep. Tonight we have to put our 6 year old Red Heeler to sleep because her kidneys are failing.

First of all you love your pet... This is never easy and it does not get better with age... Had to put a 13 year old cat to sleep, Do not know your age... but it might help to let someone else carry the pet to the vet and have the deed done, remember the animal is better after it is gone.. And you did the right thing.. It is no help, but you will find another that you will love just as much.. Pets can not tell us when they hurt... At least she did not have to suffer, thanks to you... I really wish you the best..

Because you loved her. But what a noble thing you are doing. Just keep thinking of the fact she is no longer suffering and moving on to the happy hunting grounds! It rips our hearts open , but how lucky you are to have had such love in your life because of this dog.

Because you always wonder if its the right decision.
You always wonder if its time.
You always wish you had more time.
You know how much your heart will hurt afterwards.
You know how quiet your house will be when you get home.
You wonder if there is a heaven and do animals go.
Those are what make it hard for me......I'm so sorry about your dog.

I'm sorry. It doesn't get any better with experience, either. Death is a sad experience for us, even when we know it is best for the one suffering, because we lose something important to us. We are left with a permanent whole in our souls.
