Why most mothers prefer that their daughters play with the Barbie doll rather than the Bratz doll?

well for a long time Barbie was the traditional toy for young girls, but as time went on the skirts got shorter and the makeup heavier. after awhile Barbie looked like quite a tramp...
until Bratz arrived.
Bratz are a concentrated version of everything good mothers hate about Barbie.
while Barbie needs an extra inch on her skirt, she at least has some good pastimes that make her seem a bit more tame (animal doctor, horseback rider, faerie princess...) Bratz on the other hand only ride around in a car with their boyfriends in a skirt that would make Barbie blush. ugh.

It may be a nostalgia thing. There were no Bratz dolls growing up, they played with Barbie and want their daughters to as well. It probably also has to do with the fact that the Bratz dolls look like hookers and reinforce the notion of dressing hoochie while Barbie offers a more fantastical approach-princesses and fairies and whatnot.

They've both gone a bit over the top for my tastes. But there is one main reason I will never buy my daughter a Bratz doll. (Thank god she's not yet old enough to want one). These dolls are made to be teenage girls - but they're dressed like hookers, have as much makeup as Tammy Faye at her worst, and have bodies that are proportioned so unrealistically, there's no way a real girl could look like that. As far as I am concerned, it is one more reason for a preteen girl to think (1) she has to grow up faster than she should, and (2) no matter how pretty she is, or how smart or talented she is, she's simply not good enough.
Barbie on the other hand, is not always the epitome of values I would like to instill in my child. But at least she is an adult, she has a job (many jobs, actually), she is not made up like a clown, and she provides something POSITIVE for a young girl to try and acheive.

ok well first off bratz have bigger features ( boobs, and lips and everything like that and barbies have been around for many many many years so i would think that barbie would be more of a choice as a parent perspective

Because the name Bratz says it all. Barbie isn't much better but it is a classic.

Barbies are classic and the mom most likely played with them. Also, Bratz look skanky.

I think the name "Bratz" kind of puts mothers off but I don't they really care one way or the other, otherwise. We grew up with "Barbie" but our children pick what they want as long as it isn't harmful to them.

Barbie has more of an innocent look to her.
Have you seen the clown faces on the bratz dolls?? And their clothes??
