Contrary to some answers, The X-Files WILL be around forever. It's eternal.

I really like the idea of naming a child for someone on the show. One of my cats is named Queequeg, after Scully's dog. But I'm not sure about "Fox." After all, in the season one episode "Tooms," Mulder says that he hates his name - He wouldn't let anyone call him Fox, not even his parents. It would suck if your son made you call him by his last name.

I think it's great that you want to incorporate your love for this amazing show in your child, and it's an okay name, but maybe better for a middle name or for a pet.

Good luck on deciding, and remember - Trust no one!

Ok first I loved the name fox but i think it would be better as a middle name. Just b/c it might be better for the kid even in the show he talked about being made fun of. I like it but just point it out its your kid so do what you want just saying maybe put a different first name:) How about skinner lol :)

He would not be the first child named Fox

Under babynames.com

The boy's name Fox \fox\ is of Old English origin, and its meaning is "fox". Probably refers to a fox-catcher or to a fox's den. Journalist Fox Butterfield; English statesman Charles James Fox.

Fox has 2 variant forms: Foxe and Foxen

NOW ...Chinchilla is leaning more towards the absurd and I would not do that to a child!

In a way, it's kinda cool, but -- as others have said -- there may be more "cons" than "pros" going for it.

My first reaction is that the word "fox" has different slang connotations from time to time. As he's growing up, the term may become very negative -- you never know.

Also, X-files won't be around forever. His peers may not have any idea what it is/was and he'll always have some explaining to do when anyone asks him about his name. Maybe a middle name . . . . maybe.

It's just a ridiculous first name. Like if I named my son "dog" or my daughter "chinchilla."

The worst part of it though is that he will get teased by other kids from Kindergarten on. Why make things harder on your child than need be? As a middle name it's fine because most people won't know it and middle names tend to be unusual.

I have seen some strange names in my life, and often wonder where the parent's minds were and what they were on when they named their children.
The truth is that I have never meet a child who felt the same way, they always state their name with great pride.

So, if you love the name, go for it.

I thinks it is a great, interesting name and all, but i don't think it would be an awesome idea to make it a first name. I know that I would never want my kid to go through the constant teasing. If it were to be a middle name, that would be alright.
I hope everything works out for you(:

Its not really my taste. And I suggest not to do it. I think it will be a good middle name. If my daughter(first name, Michaela, middle name Rae)was a boy, I would have named her, Dustin as the first name, and James as the middle, or Connor as the first name and James as the middle. But that's just me. I don't think my brothers would like to be named fox cause its an animal. But its not up to me what you name him. Its up to you. I would say don't do. But if you really want to name him that. People have really weird names in this world, and even though I think fox is a weird name, its definitely not the weirdest. Good Luck.

Honestly, I think it's fine as a name. But, as a parent, you should consider that maybe the kid won't grow up to be quite the X-Files fan you are.

Still, at least you're not considering a name like Yoda or Jar-Jar.

Ahh, not a good idea. Its one thing to love a show but its another to name your kid something odd from that show. Fox as the middle name might be acceptable but not as the first name. Like Lachlan Fox..... or Zavier Fox.....or Ashton Fox.....

Best of luck
