the harder, larger and slower growing they are will make them last longer.
Also if you limit the air let in, like with a wood stove insert or a very well sealed glass door may slow them down.

Use harder heavier types of wood. Also spacing logs apart so they don't burn so hot can make them burn longer.

If you have a DEAD tree in your yard chop it down.It work really good.Take a match and put it in.Take some alcohol and put it on a paper towel,then put it in.
