People that really knew music from that era would include:

UFO- coulda, shoulda been as big as Led Zeppelin
Kix (better than AC DC)
Queen (only first 3 or 4 albums)
Mott the Hoople / Ian Hunter
NY Dolls

I could name more but the 5 above are ALL great.

UFO was the greatest band from the 70's, never got the fame they deserved.... Queen's 1 & 2 were their best, but they are not known for them. Although you named Mott the Hoople, I could not leave them out, they and UFO were my favorites, moreso than Led Zep.

Classic rock stations never play the best of the 70's and 80's.

The Bealtes broke up in 1970, so... they don't really count.

More:

T. Rex
Roxy Music
The Church
Jesus & Mary Chain
Pink Floyd
Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel
My Bloody Valentine
The Cure
New York Dolls

Solo artists:

David Bowie
Bob Dylan
Falco
Jobriath
Syd Barrett

And many more. But you're getting LOTS of other suggestions.

-basically a solid ole formed tale from the previous- It became into Sunday, July 4, 1976. i will in no way overlook this cuz it became into the commemoration of our usa's Bicentennial. i became into enjoying in a band that became into on the invoice of a 4 band exterior stay overall performance the place Styx became into headlining. besides... Styx became into late displaying up for the tutor. genuine late. So late that mutually as the degree group and roadies have been bustin a$$ attempting to get issues onto the degree, Styx walked out onstage and accrued around one microphone. attempting to kill a while, Shaw picked up an acoustic and that they frivolously went into an A cappella version of, you guessed it, Suite Madame Blue. They by some potential controlled to tutor the refrain (Americaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa) right into a crowd sing-a-long mutually as the promoters concurrently desperate to enable loose with the fireworks reveal. via the top of this "sound examine", the objective audience became into waiting. The group became into waiting. And the band went directly to grant a variety of "had to of been there" magical shows. If I hadn't already been a Styx fan before that, I quite might of been one after the tutor...that evening! BTW, love prog. extensive Kansas fan.
