If the money is not taken within a few seconds (don't know how many), then yes the notes are taken back into the machine.
Few years back I was so busy talking to someone at the cash machine I forgot to pick up my money and walked away still talking, then remembered about my money. I live in a small town, and when I realised what I had done and looked back I saw a couple who I knew using the machine, and asked if they had seen cash 'sticking out of the machine' when they got there and they said "No"
I had no reason to doubt them, but went to the bank the next day. I was told that the machine had indeed taken the money back.
Hope this puts your mind at rest

If your money is dispensed into a tray which it is laying loose it will stay there until someone else takes it, there is no way that the ATM can take your money out of the tray. If it is being held under a roller's tension it's possible it may be retracted within a certain time period by the ATM. Your credit card may also be retracted back into the ATM and then you will have to contact the bank or ATM server. to get your card back.

Actually, my dear old mum and I have not been living a lie. She'd see little point in praying to her every Sunday, when I've already promised to remember her everyday. What would matter to her was when she was alive, and what is remembered of her when she was gone. My mum and I know, all a prayer is is a nice thought. Sad to think you might only reserve Sundays for your poor old mum, because some book told you to. Your mum should be more important than a book, and until you learn that, well, you're sad.

I'm pretty sure it won't be, but it could, I don't think the machine would be programmed to suck it back in, due to people would be stupid to go to a ATM, insert the card, put in the pin number, then take the card and leave the money.. also without someone else taking the money

A banker friend told me it can be different depending on the kind of ATM, but if you walk off without taking your money at his bank, it takes it back in 15 seconds or so and recredits your account.

No, because I have never heard of a machine sucking back its output.
