Im an IT Infrastructure Project manager who has been very technical or hands on in the past but have been doing Project Management work for the last few years and am now finding it difficult to find work. What type of training should I take to rekindle my career as an IT contractor?

I have implemented major applications in a major firm in NY for over 120K users on the intra and internet. My three page resume show my experience in detail. Could I be making myself over qualified? Am I too focused? Headhunters tell me its a great resume and I have been on two interview that apparenly they gave me good feedback but the contracting positions have been put on hold.

You give a broad sweep and call yourself a tech project mgr and then you ask what type of training you should take. IT program/project management is a highly prized skill. There must be something wrong with your resume if you aren't getting callbacks. How are you looking for positions, paper? headhunter? or what. You are definetly doing something wrong. Provide a little more info on your background to see if I might be interested in you. Platforms, software, salary, travel requirements.

I'm in IT as well, and I've found that honing up on your butt kissing skills is what gets you places in this field.

It doesn't matter how much you know. I work with idiots that can barely tell you what a subnet is that get praises from management because they smoochie-smoochie. I can bring down the whole network with a couple of keystrokes, but I don't kiss butt, so I'll never get anywhere.

That's the key bro, not what you know, but who you blow.
