I host an annual Christmas party, and do a gift exchange.

We have played the Right/Left game, and the game where you draw a number and steal each others' gifts, and many of the variations of that game.

This year I am looking for a unique game for a gift exchange. Any ideas?

Our group is usually large (30 + people, and children).

Your interesting and unique ideas are much appreciated...

Thanks!

Unique Gift Exchange Games

Here are a couple of ideas.

1. Recycled Gift Exchange: eveyone brings something from their home that they do not want anymore. It can not be purchased. Wrap it up. It could be anything. I love this idea because we all have things in our homes that we no longer use or need. One person's junk is another persons treasure. It's interesting to see what gifts people will fight for. Truthfully the entire gift exchange is in the fun of the game not really what you get as a gift. People typically don't like these exchanges because they often feel as though they bought something better then they received. The personal thought behind a gift isn't there with this game because you don't know who will end up with your gift. People feel stressed about Christmas and their debt. This releaves people from feeling as though they need to buy a gift to participate.

2. Read the Night Before Christmas. In a bag have everyone pull out a verse or word from the story. When they hear their word or verse as the story is being read they have to shout, "Ho Ho Ho" to let everyone in the group know it's their turn. Then they pick a gift or steal a gift. It's just a different way of the order of how people go in turn.

3. For the exchange this year. Have everyone make something. (cookies, quilt, gift certificates for walking their dog, dinner at our house, gift certificate to mow their lawn dressed up as something)

I also host an annual Christmas party. Here are a few things I have done in the past.

Write out different Christmas jokes (just the question). Cut each joke out and put them in a bag. Then write out the answers to each joke and cut them out and paste an answer on a present. Everyone can then take turns and pull a joke out of the bag. They will then tell the joke - everyone can try to help answer or, if stumped, the person can go to the gifts and try to match up the answer.

Another game that we have played is simular, but is played with Christmas songs. The start of a song phrase is put in the bag to draw and the rest of the song phrase is placed on the present. The guests have to match up the full phrase and sing it.

These games were both great hits. Hope they help you.

Oh I played this at my Christmas party last year!! What you do is you get each of your guests to write 5 things about themselves on a piece of paper (not their names), then everyone draws one piece out of a hat (if it's their own, they put it back and try again). Then, you sit in a circle and go around. If they guess right, then they get their person's gift. (It's not a straight trade because A might have B, but B might not have A). If they get it wrong, then it goes to the next person, and they have to guess next time it gets around to them. It's a bit like Christmas celebrity heads, but it's good fun, and sounds complicated, but put into practise it works a treat!
Good luck!!
