To understand Beowulf you need to know the origin of where and by who it was written. Unfortunately we do not know who wrote it, we assume it was hand written in by a Monk(not Buddhist monks) in a monastery in Old England times.
Beowulf was suppose to signify with the glory of God at his side although it is strange since he is a supposedly a Viking.
And Grendel who in the beginning of the Epic poem is said to be a descent from the first of evil,Cain. Those who have a knowledge of the bible know that Cain was of Adams and Eves son who kill his younger brother Abel, since he pleased God more than Cain did. This is a clue that this story was once written with the intentions with Christianity basis this included with stories passed down the Vikings. Point of the story is that good conquers evil with God at man's side.

Funny thing, whenever I read Beowulf I have the feeling that all those allusions to Christianity were just added on later. I tried reading it without all the religious junk and it works.
And to answer the question: Beowulf = good : monsters = evil.

I thought it was more in regards to living up to your own choices, weither they are good or bad. The resolution you took (or taking none), would contribute to the out come of the method you used, and what your priorities were that guided your decision.
