My mom sang this one to me-
Day is done,
Gone the sun,
From the lake, from the hills, from the sky.
All is well, safely rest,
God is nigh.

And I sing "You are my sunshine" to my daughter only we have fun changing the versus. Such as the part that goes "You'll never know dear how much I love you" we change that to " You'll always know dear how much I love you".

Yes she did, she had a beautiful voice. Something about the old cow poke? Then there was Kaw Liga. I can't remember the names of the others but they were nice.

My Mother used to sing a song to me an my brother about a cat. It was in Polish, and I can recall the tune, but I don't remember any of the words past the first line.

I still miss her, after all these years.

Yes, and I sang it to my children and I heard my son Joseph singing it to his son.
Long ago and far away,
I had a dream one day,
and now that dream,
is here beside me,
Just one look ,
and then,
I knew ,
that all I longed for long ago was you

I just tried to look it up on the Internet to see who sang it and could not find it. My mother sang songs to me from the Big Band Era. I wish I knew who sang it.

She used to sing me "You Are My Sunshine" as well!
But mostly it was "Catch a Falling Star"
and something like

I love you
A bushel and a peck
A bushel and a peck
And a hug around the neck
A hug around the neck
And a barrel and a peep(?! really not sure what this was!)
A barrel and a peep
And I'm talking in my sleep
About you

I don't remember exactly, but it was so lovely :)

I don't remember my mother ever singing at home. She did sing with a coral group on a 15 minute TV show in San Fransisco in the early 50s. My dad would let us stay up and watch it before we had to go to bed.

Yes, my mom sang a song about a boy named Willie, that I loved. I need to have her write down the words for me.
I sang Brahms Lullaby to my daughter.

I can't say I remember back that far, but I don't believe she did. I'm sure, after having heard her sing over the years, that if she had tried I'd have been screaming at the top of my lungs rather than sleeping...

Wind of the Western Sea. I don't know the words any more, but she sang it in the late 40's.
