Ok... so ONE prob I have is that the guess wanna third the bill which is FINE! but! they have personal refrigerators on aside that we have a big one in the kitchen. I had one before we has to start paying PGE by ourself and I decided to remove mines being that I knew it would consume a lot of energy. I told them this fact and they decided to keep theirs, which is fine but they are not willing to put in their third plus a little extra; 5 dollars for their Mini fridge. do you think I'm wrong for asking them to pay extra and/or what should I do? Remind you... the bill is under my name! Thanks in advance!

Call the electric company and ask them to estimate the amount of energy one of those little fridges uses a month then add that to their one third of the bill. Tell them that the load is too much for the electrical system in the home and they need to unplug or pay for an electrician. Tell them that your insurance does not cover the use of additional large appliances and that fridges are considered a large appliance in your policy, your agent told you. You can unplug their fridges when they are gone, and turn it over and cut the cord. When it doesn't keep cold things cold they will think that it is broken and get rid of it. Or you can take water and carefully pour it in the shelves of the fridge and make them think it is a leak and they will have to unplug it to keep from getting electrocuted when they get a coke!! You are too sweet to them and will need to put your foot down! I am like that Tyler Perry's Madea and I would fix them up for being uncooperative with you. Best of luck to you!!

i think that you are right. they should put extra in to pay. why should you have to pay for there luxury.

it's good that it's under your name. in my apartment there is an emergency circuit brinker. you might find this in the kitchen wall. or you might find it in the basement. in these boxes each switch controls power with in each room. usually they are labeled. what i would do is if no one wants to pay for the electric bill then i shut the power of in their room. after a while all there food will spoil even if you and they go back and fourth flipping the switch. and they wont have lights or anything in the room.

3 things could happen they will get the hint and pay the extra or unplug thier consuming fridge

or they could decide to take you to court with this i hope that you have wrote up an agreement about this.

or they will move out.

i would do it on principle. and for the cost coz it can add up to be a lot of money.

good luck

No, you are not wrong with asking for extra amount for the extra usage of Electric. What I would do if they still refuse to pay is that they are going to have start paying an additional $50 plus what ever their portion is for the Electric and if they do not comply that you will move out and have the Electric turned off when you leave the house/apartment/condo.
That should get their attendation!

The utility can estimate how much their little fridges use each month. I'd tell them they have to cough up their 3rd, plus that little extra or get rid of the fridges. They may like having their own fridges to keep food in they don't want the rest of you to scarf down. I'm guessing it's more laziness then anything though.

i know exactly how you feel...it sucks when you have to equally split the bill even though your roommates are making the bill so high in the first place. its definitly not wrong in you asking them to pay a bit extra..put it to them again, explain that you got rid of your fridge to lower power costs. why do they even need a fridge in their room anyway?!?!?

You aren't wrong for asking/expecting them to pay a little extra, making it happen won't be so easy.
