Put bread on the toaster and it starts to become warm. It is just at the point where the surface of the bread begins to 'crisp'...that it becomes toast.

when the bread particules are transformed by heat and become carbonized bread particules
that's burnt toast
regular toast is just hot bread, or half-way-through burnt toast
