hi.
i recently got a new power supply but it is missing a 3 pin plug for my cooling system. i tried buying a 4pin to 3 pin adapter but it did not work. i also tried extending my cd drive plug and using it for the mother board cooling system. it says abnormal fan something something. whats wrong here?

That 3 pin connector should go to its right connector on the motherboard not the power supply. Motherboard is detecting no load or no rpm on that empty socket that is why it is giving that "abnormal fan message".
Most motherboards would have a 3 or 4 pin connector for the processor cooling fan then another one for North Bridge cooler and a third for PC case fan. Do not interchange connections. If there is no 3rd connector for case fan, it should be the case fan that needs an adapter to connect to 4 pin molex of power supply.

Doesn't the motherboard have a fan socket? Wiring direct to the CD power will work but always at full speed. Most have three wires, 0, +12 and tach to vary the speed according to the temperature. . If the fan isn't connected to the motherboard then you will get an abnormal fan message because it wants to see a tach signal.
