Hi I currently have a cream deep pile carpet on my stairs and landing but unfortunatley our puppy had a couple of accidents on the landing part of the carpet, and no matter what we have tried, nothing will clean it completly. So I want to remove the carpet from the landing but leave it on the stairs. I do not want to put more carpet down but Im at a loss as to what i could put on the floor that will be primarily safe and easy to clean. I have children too so it can't be slippery. Underneth the carpet on the landing is chipboard.

Hi just to extend my origional Q and to say thanks for all the answers and links really. I've decided to just rip the whole lot up including the stairs and re carpet. I have a vax carpet washer and it didnt clean it completley, i blotted it first and used baking soda etc but it just hasn't come out. Anyway since he stained the carpet the stairs has had a gate attached to it so he can't go upstairs anymore. I wish i had bought a steam cleaner rather than a wet carpet washer is the moral of the story as it was just useless!
Thanks again all

If i was able to afford that I'd have it all over my house and just roll in it all day.

...not dog piss, deep pile carpet.

It will not look right having a different flooring on the landing than the stairs. I would replace the whole lot. The stairs do not amount to alot of carpet as the stair carpet is normally the waste off the landing. Go for a Stain resistant carpet. One that has a 5 year stain warranty would be best. By all means have wood in the rooms e.t.c. but wood on a landing will be noisy, carpet is better at sound resistance and with a good underlay, even better.

Until your puppy is house trained, I wouldn't replace anything. I would suggest that you get Oxy and remove the stain to the best of your ability and then use some baking soda blotted on the stain in order to remove the odor. Use an area rug to cover the stain until the puppy is house broke then replace the carpet with something you love, but replace the landing and stair carpet to match or it just won't look right.

Have you tried Hydrogen Peroxide or Oxy-clean? Always works. Blot don't rub. Make sure to use only white cloths. To despell the odor, use Scrubbing Bubbles spray bathroom cleaner.

And unless you train the puppy fast. I can't think of a thing that would work other than tile or wood flooring.
Sorry!

I personally have Berber carpet which is white pretty much and have had many pet accidents. I have had no problems getting out any stains thanks to Bissell steam cleaner and spot cleaner. As for other flooring go with ceramic if you have the cash and you don't want to keep cleaning the carpet. My uncle does wood flooring and if you wear socks on it you will definitely bust your a@# on it.

Why don't you put a nice area rug down on top of the cream carpet if their are no spots on the outer edges along the walls, and keep the puppy down stairs? You could select a color that goes with your decor . . . a pretty imitation oriental would be nice.

Unfortunately your under flooring is chipboard so you will need to recarpet. If you can't match your stair carpeting at this point, you will need to replace all. It wouldn't be very expensive to do this. Any other quick fix would not look very nice and your chipboard would probably show somehow. Hopefully at this point your puppy is house trained. If not leave this upgrade to when it is.

you can have a flooring company install a wood floor. They have ones with slats that fit together nicely and it isn't as expensive as it used to be to have installed. The important thing is to get the slot and groove type that just interlock, that is the cheapest type. It cleans up well and will look good with the cream carpet.
