Need to relocate family there for one year. Looking for safety first and clean standards. Can afford rent up to $750. A community of many Americans would be nice. Thanks.

Somewhere along the border would be best for me. Otherwise, Baja would be nice.

Many Americans live in San Miguel de Allende. It is a very pleasant town with lots to do. The rent is very high by Mexican standards, but low by American standards. Go to http://www.atencionsanmiguel.org/ to browse apartment prices.

La Mision, Baja California Norte. Beach community lots of gringos. Close to the US border, almost no crime. Rents are not cheap, check the gringogazettenorth.com for rentals

Puerto Aventuras, Mexico
There is also a beautiful private school there. Very safe place. Also, it is a 30 minute drive to Playa del Carmen, which is the city you'd shop in to go for Walmart Super Store and Sam's Club across the street. There is also, Taco Bell, Burger King, etc, lol. Crazy! Then ya drive back to paradise in Puerto Aventuras. Good luck.

To which city are you relocating?
Mexico has 31 states. You need to be more specific so we can help you.

OK, in Tijuana, you can chose to live in Playas de Tijuana, there are a lot of Americans there, and you can find affordable housing.
It all depends in your motives to relocate (working, studying, etc), if you want to live in the city there are great neighborhoods like, Chapultepec, Cacho, Juarez, Zona Rio apartments, Hipódromo, this are some neighborhoods where the locals live and usually you can find Americans.

If you want to live near the beach, Playas de Tijuana or San Antonio de los Buenos is the place to be, or you can go to other cities like Rosarito or Ensenada, which are filled with Retired Americans.
Unless you live in a low class neighborhood, the rest of the city is clean like in other countries.

Probaly Zona, Mexico in the Yucatan Peninsula. Be mindful, however, that they get hit by hurricanes there. I know, I've survived one there!! (Playa Del Carmen).

Try Guadalajara. I know a bunch of old and not so old white Americans living there.
