I believe that statement is untrue. Freedom is no one's captive. Those who believe that they bestow freedom are deluding themselves. Take, for example a line from the movie "Shawshank Redemption":
"...there are places in this world that aren't made out of stone. That there's something inside... that they can't get to, that they can't touch. That's yours".
His character is based entirely on that premise. No matter what your situation may be, you still have the power of freedom.

One can look at this two ways.....Someone could be in a dysfunctional relationship & stay with that person because they are co-dependant. If one or the other separates from the co-depemcy they themselfs have regained their freedom on their own. On the other hand if an individual is being controled by another by force than yes the one being in control must grant the other's freedom. ..............

I agree with the statement, keeping in mind that it is your choice to let someyone (or yourself) hold you as a prisoner. Thus said, keep in mind if you have a choice to be a prisoner then you can obtain freedom, because having a choice alone is liberty.

i dont think that is true, people are held prisoner in many ways, not just by bars and force, and they can find /reach their own freedom, by moving past and beyond the circumstances

Unless they can overcome the ones holding them prisoner.
JESUS CHRIST can set us free, but we will be a slave to someone or something(s) in this life even if it is to ourself.
