Roberta, I can't see this as black and white.I don't care where anyone lives. My PT is an immigrant from Australia but she has a profession and speaks English. I don't even care if you bring all 10 of your kids as long as you are a good person and make America a place you are proud of.
learn American English and get your citizenship it will give you a better job opportunity and keep people from cheating you. now I think I have been fair enough. If you can't see it then don't come to America. so If pressed I have to say Anti...my ancestors learned English before coming.

I have no objections to legal immigration. My grandmother was born in Germany and immigrated to the US when she was 17 years old with her sister in 1923. She and her sister came through all the legal channels and became American citizens before they got jobs, got married to Americans and had children.

I object 100% to ILLEGAL immigrants using my tax dollars to educate their children and get health care for free. Charitable medical treatment is an exception.

We have homeless Americans and children living in poverty who are American born. It is a disgrace that the wealthiest country in the world can't feed her people. I want my tax dollars to feed Americans not foreigners. I'll donate to a charity if I want to do that. My tax dollars should benefit Americans.

The US is not invincible, we must take care of our own and keep those out who work to undermine our way of life. These illegal immigrants don't want the "American Dream" they want to suck off the milk and honey and contribute nothing to improve our society. I'm talking more about the people who come to the US on a visitors visa, start working illegally for cash, don't pay taxes and send much of the money they earn to a foreign country to their families, than I am about the Mexican illegal immigrant problem. They too fall under some of the same complaints I have, but not all.

Roberta, Besides being an American Immigrant, I think that's one right that everyone has to be free American, from cotton fields to the city or from anywhere, that includes IMMIGRANTS. Take care! Jimmy.

In order to immigrate 'legally', you have to wade through years of red tape, and suck all the right bureaucratic toes.

What is "legal", anyway? Once it was illegal to help a slave escape, and later it was perfectly legal for Hitler to truck a bunch of innocents off to die. Don't let the Law become an end. Ask yourself what's really *right*, and what you would do in their position.
I tell ya. If it were me, I'd want to get my family into a country where they can live a life of (relative) freedom, and I wouldn't let a bunch of bureaucratic busybodies dictate the terms.

As for the useless eaters, they're only coming over because of all the feed-good bait, like Welfare and "free" education.
Get rid of that stuff and you'll see more productive folks come over, legally and otherwise.

I take folks as individuals, and to heck with where they were born, and whether they brown nosed a bunch of desk jockeys to get here.

For me its not a question of immigration or not its work ethic. There is a belief that all immigrants are lazy and are looking for a free ride. There are plenty of US citizens who are too. There are many hard working immigrants that not only bring business to this country and increase the economy but they also pay their taxes with pride. I'd let 100 hard working immigrants in if it meant I could cast one crack addict out.

My family has been here in South Texas for over 100 years. Yet I am for immigrants because that is what this country was founded on. The country was founded because some people in England were being persecuted for their religious beliefs, since then we have taken in Italians, Polish, Russians, Irish, Cuban, Italians, French, Indian, German, Mexican.

Our country is not in a good place now and I guess blaming immigrants for our out of control health care costs, welfare and other subsidy's is one answer. But in reality we have to blame our leaders who have spent BILLIONS on this stupid war.

I'm immigrants side. But I'm anti-iILLEGAL immigrant. IIlegal means breaking the law. By the way I should check me and my 2 year old son's social security number and credit check. Catch my drift.

I think I probably represent the majority of people when I say 'both'. I think excessive immigration causes problems (think of Enoch Powell's Rivers of Blood Speech). However, reasonable and well monitored immigration is wonderful for the country - it brings in new cultures, experiences, money, skills and so on. On the whole, I welcome new comers but if honest, I prefer it if they want to embrace our culture and not just live in a cultural pocket of their own.

I have no problem with people from other countries coming into ours as long as they are legal. If they are illegal, their children are taking away from my opportunities in the country where my ancestors legally immigrated and where i was born and raised. It is not fair to us, and if they relay need to get a new life in our country, BECOME A LEGAL CITIZEN!

Im in favor of immigration IF they do things by the book, otherwise our tax payer are paying for illegals who work tax free while their spouses sit at home and draw welfare.
This is why we need (have needed) border control for ages.
I do NOT blame the immigrants for wanting to come here,I wouldnt want to live in mexico either if I were poor.
We need to liberate the mexican people by getting rid of their sorry government.
