...it's already dry and it's only been 11 months since we got it. cheapass tree...probably made in China with lead paint too.

You get what you pay for! A cheapass tree bought from the cheapass store is going to give you cheapass results!
I know its tempting, but don't eat the paint chips..ok??

You still got the receipt? One year, I stole a Christmas tree. Not really, I just tore a tag off the cheapest tree, took it inside to pay and then grabbed a nice one on the way out to the car.
