Does anyone out there think a 2hr after school detention is the correct punishment for not handing in homework? I basicaly had to sit in a classroom on my own after school and I had to write out lines 500 times which took forever. and also my hand hurt for days afterwards.

i am in year 10 (15 yrs) and go to school in the uk and we have to wear school uniform.

my parents think 2 hours is a long time and would be better split into 2 weeks? and writing lines is not very productive.

Also the cleaners at school can into the room and cleaned the floor, desks etc.... while i was sat there writing lines!

what do people think?

That's too bad ... if you don't break the rules you won't get detention.

It doesn't matter WHAT people here think, your school will do what it sees fit. I could have come up with a more-productive way of having you spend two hours of school-time, something akin to a five-page report on something, or an essay on how individual productivity positively affects society. If all you were doing was lines, it doesn't matter if your concentration got broken, what you were doing was strictly to impress upon you that there WERE consequences for not doing your work. I hope you have learned that. This isn't a real question, just a group-invite to a pity-party. Consider this an RSVP with a "not attending" indicator.

I mean that is so mean. Like 20 or 30 minutes is o.k. for not handing in homework but 2 hours is like if you beat someone up! I agree with you that it is stupid. Well maybe try to turn in your homework and if you get a 2 hour detention for not turining your homework in, get your parents to talk to the principal or somebody. Good Luck.

Shouldn't get detention unless that is the normal process for your school and you know the punishment ahead of time. Even then if the teacher wanted to give you two hours, it should have been one hour for two consecutive days.

I think you should have turned in your homework.

My 11 yr old grandson got all Es (failing grades) in every subject on his card for failing to turn in homework. Now that's drastic. So, I don't think 2 hours after school, and writing out lines is very bad, at all.

It seems a lot - I personally would have made you sit down and complete the assignment you missed, plus any homework you were assigned that day.

Sorry, but I would enforce responsibility. You will need to manage your time and take daily responsibility to be successful in college/univ and at work - coming up before you know it - and that is based on work habits established in your teens.
