I have a brush that is stiff with varnish, but I don't have any paint thinner or turpentine on hand, nor do I have the means to go get some. Is there any household substitute I could soak it in to get the residual varnish out so that it is flexible enough to use again? Thank you!

Would warm water and dish soap work?

Oh, also, it's a polyurethane varnish.

if you realy have to use this brush, soak it in finger nail polish remover, it will do the same as paint thinner,

turpentine is a a cleaned kind of kerosene or NAFTA, mineral spirit is common thinner also (baby oil for 99 cent in 99 cent stores is a mineral spirit - use it).

if you have laquer thinner or
ketone or toulene in the garage maybe
