You probably do it year round, but do you make a special effort at Christmas time?

Yes, Toys for Tots is a very good program but it seems there still isn't enough toys to be given out to every child at Christmas. Angel trees are another excellent way to help families at Christmas time. Our church adopts a family at Christmas and gives them food and presents. Too bad everyone doesn't do the same to help out.

I do different Charities through out the year. I used to do Santa's last call and deliver a gift to the children who were on Welfare. I no longer work with group but since you reminded me I think I will call and see if they are still doing this. I do support a little boy in So. Africa and I can only send him gifts that fit in an envelop 9" size as things get stolen by terrorists. At my church we also decorate a shoe box and fill it with things the child will need and toys too...to be sent to the missionary field for the children at Christmas. So I would have to say I make an effort about the same all through the year.

In mid-November I take part in Operation Christmas Child, sponsored by Samaritan's Purse, a Christian organization. We fill shoeboxes with goodies--toys, toiletries, school supplies, T-shirts or socks--sent overseas to children in poor regions.

In December I usually get a Santa letter from the Post Office at W 33rd Street and Eighth Avenue, NYC. I try to select a letter from a needy family, then I answer it best I can.

If my church or a small group of mine at my church is participating in Angel Tree, which gifts gifts to children of prisoners in the name of the prisoner, I'll help out with that, too.

Barnes & Noble has a book drive this time of year; customers can purchase a book for a needy child and drop it in a bin at the store. I've done that a few times.

I take part in this other charity drive, similar to Toys for Tots...

And it only comes around at Christmas time so yes.
I donate about $20+ dollars per child.

yes. this year i've started a tradition with my daughters where no matter how much money we have...they will each give a little present to the toy drive that our newspaper runs with the salvation army. i believe it's important for my girls (5 years and 21 months) to know that some children have less than they do and christmas isn't just about getting..it's about giving and the good feelings that giving brings to both themselves and the children who will receive the gifts.

Yes.Once a year one of our local stores holds a "give a child some warmth" drive where you donate a new or used coat for needy children. K-Mart is next door so I go there and buy a coat to donate. My grandchildren will donate their coats from last year.
In the summer they hold a bicycle drive and I will find a good bike at a yard sale, my grandson helps me clean and paint if needed and we put a new seat and grips on it, then donate it.
I think it's important to teach children to give, to want to give from the heart and hope that it stays with them for life.

Once a year we have a whole day on television called "Children in need" People do all sorts of stunts and raise money in every way imaginable in order to make donations to children's charities or projects. Celebrities give their time to come and perform or just be there and you can phone in to pledge money as well, which I do every year. So far this year they have made over £19 million ($38 million)

I participate in a similar program where people on my floor at work answer actual letters that kids have written to Santa. It's all organized by a volunteer agency in the city. They answer about 25,000 letters a year! (My floor answers about 70 of them.)
