If they did not have authorization to withdraw from your account, you can file a dispute with your bank. The funds should be provisionally credited within 10 business days.

The only way that the provisional credit will be revoked is if the company can prove that you authorized the transaction.

If you gave them your bank account information, then you should not be suprised. That is why you never never send any account information to a collection agency.

I would start by contacting my bank and telling them that I did not authorise the debit. They will likely reverse it.

I'd then get a new account number.

You need to get a lawyer fast, as well as ask your bank for all infomation pertainig to this transaction. Then call your state consumer affairs office and file a formal complaint and request an investigation why these people were able to withdraw from your bank.
