You could go a bookstore and buy a copy of the guide to US coins, commonly called the red book. It will have a listing of all US coins and their retail values. If you are going to sell you coins expect to get about half of the retail value.

You won't find a free site that will help you without you doing a lot of looking. Go get a Coins or Coinage magazine, they have retail price guides for U.S. coins. You can look your cents up there and it will give you an idea of value. Dealers pay 40%-50% less. To give you a list of vauable coins would be to time consuming and take up a lot of space. Hope this points you in the right direction.

If you are seriously interested in finding out values to your coins, without having to pay for an appraisal of your collection, you should go to your public library. They have a wealth of information regarding coin collecting, and values of individual coins. Just keep in mind that, the value doesn't doesn't always depend on the age of the coin. AND, the value shown in the coin books is NOT necessairly what you can expect someone to offer you if you decide to sell your collection. Generally speaking, you might expect to receive about half of what is shown. Most collectors are looking for certain coins to complete a collection. Particularly a 'one cent' (penny) collector.
