No, it's not compulsory, and elections have been lost due to voter apathy.
I wouldn't mind if voting was compulsory... and rather than a fine for missing an election, I think a fitting punishment would be to be forced to write a report on the candidates...

At age 18 in the USA, you have the right to vote once you register to vote, but it's not compulsory.

It is a right and a privilege to vote, but not compulsory..but if you don't vote I don't want to hear how bad someone or something is..if you don't vote you have no right to complain.

Voting in the United States of America is a PRIVILEGE. That privilege can be taken away. One can choose NOT to vote, but then one should not complain when things don't turn out how one wants.
