I was told that private (corporate) libraries pay out a lot more than public or university libraries.

Many current librarians are approaching retirement age, so jobs should open up over the next 5 or 10 years. Be aware that pay is low in most public libraries. If you are a corporate librarian, or in some places a school librarian, pay can be good..
