You might be surprised at how many high school age guys knit. Call your nearest yarn shop, or, if you have one, a Michael's or A C Moore, and ask if they give lessons or can recommend someone to teach you (of course, there's always Gramma or Mom, but sometimes it's easier with someone you don't live with ). Getting started is the hardest part. Will you be the only guy in classes? Probably, but don't let that discourage you. A lot of men knit--look at Kaffe Fasset, or Rick Mondragon, or Alexis Xenakis, all knitters. James Walters (who is also a friend of mine, lives in Wales, runs a recording studio in an ancient castle of all things ) is a world known crocheter. We have a gentleman in our knitting circle who knits socks like you wouldn't believe. So you knit and crochet. Rosie Grier, a football star of the '60's and '70's did needlepoint and no one laughed at him. Recovering servicemen from WW I on learned to knit and crochet while their injuries healed, and youngsters of both sexes regularly learn to knit in school in Europe. I, personally, would be proud to knit with you.

If you are able to learn from a video, you can find some online to show you the basics. Try putting something like "knitting how to" in a search engine.

Also, if you are able to learn from pictures, there are several places on line that have very good diagrams that show the basics.

There are many men who design knit and crochet items and the people who buy the patterns do not think there is anything wrong with a guy knitting or crocheting. Type "crochet dude" into the search engine and check out what he has done. There are others out there --I just can't think of their names.

Don't let someone else's idea of what is an appropriate activity keep you from learning something creative and fun. Go for it!

dont be embarrassed!!! some girls even think thats attractive because it ususally means the guy is more sensative and whatever. i taught my brother how to knit when he was a senior in high school and he ended up teaching his whole floor freshman year in college lol. if i were you, id just ask my mom or grandma to show me the basic knit stitch and start out with like size 8 needles and make a simple scarf. once you have down the basic knit stitch, it isnt hard at all to learn pearling and other stitches. just get a book of patterns and enjoy. again, i think it GREAT that a guy wants to try knitting :D

Hi Nick guess who were the first knitters? Men! You should check out the history of knitting. Men in Peru do it while tending their herds or flocks. It is a very enjoyable hobby . You know a lot of top designers are men. Don't be intimidated by what others are doing. Look at this link of Kaffe Fasset designs. His designs are truly inspirational. I saw him featured on tv a few years ago and he taught himself to knit and now he is one of the best designers. You should check out the public library, they have a lot of knitting books on his work . There are also many "how to " on the web but I preferred to hav a book by my side when I was learning. Just be patient and start with a square to learn with large needles.
There are also DVD's available . Happy Knitting and good luck!

I helped him go out with someone he liked when u liked him cuz were bffs but ok we talked about it (a year later) hes still with her and im still misrable and honey you dont want to end up feeling the way i feel. Just go for it! ur 14 and you have got nothing to lose. if hes rly ur friend hell still be friends even if he doesnt like u back. and the worst feeling in the worldd is regret and you dont want tofeel that cuz now my friend wonders what could have been with us if i had spoken up and told him i liked him. and who knows maybe he told u bout ally to see how u reacted no one knows guys are a complicated yet simple species haha So if i were you id say J, were best friends so I just want you to be happy so if you like ally then go for it but i like you and i was hoping to give us a chance but i still want to be close friends if it doesnt work out idk something along those lines and honestly it may not work and ,aybe hell feel awkward and itll be weird for a bit but since ur so close im sure ull eventually be as close as you are and at least u tried and in the long run going for it is always better than wondering and regretting not doing any thing about it TRUST ME. I wish you luck and i hope J realizes that you are the right person for him!!

hi its good to knit, and you can go to your library and take out new books on yarn crafts look for names like generation x knit and the such, also look in video section for dvd's because you will be able to see how to. also ask if they have teen knit clubs or know of any cause at my library they do, even give out free yarn. and last ladies love guys who are crafty it is right next to handy on things we love, and while other guys worry about what others think, you will be surrounded by cute crafty girls :) ps look at site called thread heads.

I know of plenty of men who love to do these things. If you love it, embarrassment and what other people think shouldn't stop you. Just because you are a guy doesn't mean you can't do those things. Follow your heart. If you are afraid then don't do it, but I think you should.
