Because it is illegal and in order to tax it they would have to make legal.
If you make it legal, you will have more people abusing it, and people will want OTHER harder drugs legalized and you will have a host of new problems.
You will have to have a "dont drive high" law enforced, people will lose thier jobsleft and right for having a legal substance in their system if they get hurt at work, they can do this with alcohol now, but they will have to make new laws.
Not to mention all the ones who wont be able to work due to weed abuse will go on welfare because they have a "disease" like alcoholics.
You will be adding fuel to the fire instead of putting it out.
In 1984 the Fed Government took in 12.3 million in taxes from the sales of alcohol, they turned around and spent out 89.8 million for all the problems it causes.Do you know if your an alcoholic you qualify for disability?

Actually, there is a federal tax stamp for marijuana. If you purchase the stamp you can legally own it. The catch 22 is that the government has never issued the stamp.

The problem with having another legal recreational drug, alcohol is the drug of choice in our society, is the same as it is now. People who can't handle it will get into trouble, just like they do now. No amount of talk about how harmless weed might be will change the mindset that has been in place for more than fifty years.

Because weed can be grown. Another words if you make weed legal then growing it will be legal also.

Since that would be legal nobody would pay for government dope when you can grow your own for free, hence little profit from Uncle Sam.

Besides the alcohol corporations would lose money from people switching over too pot.

Plus eye doctors ( see glaucoma and weed).

Plus the insurance companies would have to shell out more cash for respiratory illnesses an lung cancer cases. And let's face it, they have more politicians bought off than anyone.

The Government may not directly tax it, but the IRS does if you earned money selling it. If the IRS can prove you made money selling it and didnt report it as income, you can be arrested for tax evasion.

They would be able to tax its industrial uses, but whoever just wanted to toke a litle could grow as much as they wanted, and nobody would ever know.

Just like it is now, in other words, only at the moment we aren't permitted to use it industrially.....
