When I changed the fuel pump in my 2000 S-10.Jack the truck up in the rear.Take the wheels off for access to the filler neck and lines on top of the tank.Relieve the pressure in the fuel system. With an assistant and a jack under the tank, remove the straps and SLOOOOOWLY lower the tank as the filler tube and vent are disconnected and the lines are taken off @ the top of the tank.Lower the tank to the floor.
Remove the lock ring holding the fuel pump module in to the gas tank. Remove the module. Good luck on this .Mine was a flex fuel system and parts could only be bought at the dealer. The entire module had to be replaced@ over $400 and I was lucky they had one.
Reverse procedure to re assemble.

easiest way on an s10 is to remove the bed of the truck,, 4 bolts and couple guys can lift it off, we've done it here in the drive way at least a dozen times . disconnect the battery cable and ground yourself to the truck before working on the fuel pump,,, from there on its just remove and replace... just be careful with the plastic fittings, they can be brittle... and do not forget to replace the filter too. OH.. and NO SMOKING!!!

disconnect the battery

floor jack under the gas tank - and a buddy for help.

Now take the gas tank straps off completly.

lower the tank slowly - (no smoking)

There is a ring around the pump assembly - where all the hoses are.
Take a flat screw driver and a small hammer - there are 3 lips you turn to loosen that o ring.
Then it just lifts up and out.

Once off you will see the motor inside.

doesn't show you in the book that came with the vehicle. If not buy one of those Childens books that contains all the info about every car.

Honestly, I would recomend buying a Repair Manual from an auto parts store. It should have enough information in it to help you out. They usually cost around $16.00-$20.00 .
