Maltose and glucose are both sugars, and all sugars are organic (mainly composed of carbon). Glucose (C6H12O6) is a 6 carbon sugar, and maltose is a disaccharide, composed of two glucose molecules joined together. Starch is a polymer (long chain) of glucose, therefore it is also organic. Water is inorganic because it does not contain any carbon (its chemical formula is H2O). Chemical reactions in a cell are aqueous, meaning that they take place in water. Therefore, the first answer is the correct one, water.

Water. The other compounds are all organic compounds--they all contain carbon. Water is the only inorganic compound in the list of choices.
