Taking your daughter out into the cold air may be the BEST thing you can do for your child. Also do not 'overbundle' her ... put on one layer LESS clothing than you will be comfortable in. Take lots of tissue to keep her nose clean, and CARRY her at all times. Leave the stroller at home, but be sure you use the car seat when she's in the car. Your daughter may be coming down with 'croup' (the cough in the night) and the 'cool, damp air' will help that. As for that 'runny nose' it's because your daughter is teething and it's irritating her sinuses. As long as the mucus from her nose is 'clear' she's WELL, basically. Sometimes it's allergies, but those can be dealt with at her regular doctor's visit ... for now, she's 11 months old, and that is a PERFECT age to 'start building memories' of going to parades and other 'fun stuff' when she's small ...for both you and her ... and one last bit of advice ... make sure she has a good hat on that covers her ears and keeps her head warm, and that her feet are covered in socks and a pajama or blanket ... it's the head and the feet that 'bleed warmth' and make the whole body feel cold, and that is especially true for babies ... otherwise, if you use the 'one less layer' trick, your baby will 'feel cool but not cold' and that will be far more 'comfortable' to her than getting overheated.

A warm head and chest will be the best protection. But I would think that if her face is exposed to the cold, it will definitely make her nose run more. So if you want to avoid the runny nose, I would think the freezing weather wouldn't be the best. Unless you can find an infant-sized ski mask! :) Could she have a baby sitter? (I know, dumb question.) I hope she gets better soon!

Stay home or get a baby sitter to come to your house.
Bundling the baby up will keep her warm, but if she gets too hot and sweaty, she will get cold when you get home and un-bundle her.
It will be the same as going into an air conditioned house after being outside on a hot day.
You can take her to the parade next year.
As she gets older, take her outside more and more to play, the fresh air will help her body build up immunities to the germs and viruses, let her play in the rain and snow as well as the sun.
She will be healthier for it and any colds or illness will be shorter.

No, I would not take her out into the cold! Breathing in the cold air wouldn't be good if she's coming down with a cold. Skip the parade!

If she is bundled up to ridiculous proportions and hasn't developed a full-fledged cold, then I don't see that as a problem. As the other poster indicated, if she's in a good mood, she's probably fine. Provided that you are prepared to end your parade watching early if needed, have a good time!
Breathing in cold air isn't likely to make any difference. People take their nearly 1 year old kids to our winter parades and it is always hovering around zero F.

If she has been sick, then the answer is no. It is to long of a time to keep her out, and it will make her cough worse, I'm sure the parade isn't that important..

Sometimes if you dress baby to warm that will make it worse for her. I wouldn't take her due to her breathing in the cold air. I wouldn't want to risk another cold if it could possibly be prevented. I know it is hard with the little ones. ((hug))

I totally agree with sparkles, it doesn't matter how many blankets she has on, she'll be breathing and taking in her lungs very cold air, I say don't risk it, since she's not totally over her previous cold that would be a risk to her.

While the cold weather will not give a cold, it makes it more likely to catch one as body is not able to fight the virus as well.
That is why more people get sick in the cold months. Viruses are always around.

Give it a pass, not because of her sniffles but because of the worse things she can catch from other parade goers when she's weakened by the sniffles. Have you ever noticed how strangers insist on putting their faces right in front of your baby's face while they admore her?
