if I was to have a gf from a different country, like say Japan, shouldnt I have to learn her language as much as she learns mine? Or can we just both learn sign and be fine?

well in order to have a girl frend from another country, you would have to be able to comminucate to her in the first place. i mean, if you were boy friend and girlfriend, you would have had to talk to each other somehow in either of the languages. you can't just look at someone and decide youre boyfrend and girlfrend

you should definitely learn her language. and then once you learn japanese you should teach her english

How far are you planning to take it with this new gf...some communications can be done non verbally. My cousins grandma spoke no English and she and her husband, who spoke no Spanish had 23 kids! The communicated. She apparently never said no but they communicated.

My son is in Japan with a girl he likes right now. Trust me, it helps if you can speak some Japanese. LOL

I think you should both learn eachothers launguages...it won't be that hard to do because you'll both be able to help eachother.
