I think that if kids are going to have these, they need to be taught the appropriate places and times to use them- my daughter has a pair- she can wear them to the park or to play in our front yard- If I were to catch her wheeling around in the supermarket or places that are not 'play' areas that she could be causing a distraction or being incosiderate to others I would take them away and toss them in a heartbeat and she knows I am not kidding.
Of course, this leads me to think about when I was 20, I worked in a very large supermarket where we were required to wear skates, LOL - the store was huge so instead of having us walk from the back to the front of the store to do a price check or get a product for a customer- we skated- it was much faster. I never had a collision with a customer but there were certainly a couple of near misses, LOL. We were taught however to be aware of what was going on around us- 12 yos, however, tend to be a little more self absorbed and ae not always on the lookout when they are skating around and showing off their "wheelies"
I am not so worried about the parents realizing the risk as far as accidents go- kids can fall of thier bikes, have skateboard accidents, etc- everything they do can be a risk and we should not keep them from doing them- just teach them to do it safely- things happen though- my concern is parents are not teaching their kids common courtesy- it is rude and inconsiderate to be skating or skateboarding through a mall (and yes, I have seen that) It is rude and incosiderate to just do your own thing and not take note of what is going on around you and who you are subjecting to having to put up with oyu doing your thing- this goes for those wheelies in the supermarket or mall, the music blared so loud that hte whole neighborhood can hear it whether they want to or not, smoking in public places where people who choose not to are forced to breath it whether they want to or not, and the list oges on.
Parents should teach their kids common courtesy and unfortunately I see less and less of that every day

yes it does annoy me especially when my sister does it to me. But what's the risk? i understand the running in to people part but other than that i really don't.
i dont get how someone can get hurt! they bump into you say they're sorry and everyone moves on. i have yet to see that happen to anyone yet.
my parents came up with a rule though she is not allowed to skate inside unless there is no one around even then she isn't allowed to.
she falls down a lot any way
heely's are what they are called
they cost $60!! she earned it though

yes it does! When I use to work at Wal-Mart the kids would always come thru wearing those things and it would anoy the **** out of me. the could seriously hurt them selfs or someone else and the parents do not care. they do not put them in safety gear to protect them or anything. and that is just sad!

I'm just waiting for one of them to wipe out, and believe me, I'll have a hard time not laughing when it happens. Sadly, though, there will be a big lawsuit, should some dumb kid fall and hurt himself.

oh for crying out loud - we used to jump ramps with our bikes (no helmets or knee pads), and all kinds of crazy stuff. Lighten up - let the kids be kids before they have to grow up and worry about all the crap we adults have to deal with!
