Don't know where you live. In my state, Florida they can fine you or prosecute you using felony charges. If you are not paying, you are presumed guilty. If you are moving very soon, they will probably not bother with trying to find you. Good luck.

Suzi, not only can you get a fine, through the Magistrates Court but you could also get sent to prison! Check your local paper and you'll see countless people who have tried to avoid paying for a tv license and got caught. Don't think either if you don't have an aerial on your roof they won't know that you have a tv coz they do, also if you only watch Satellite tv you still have to have a license.....the fine is a lot more than the license and you will have to buy one straight away so for something you say you can't afford you'll find you can afford it compared to the fine, court costs plus a full license. That can become a total of £1000.
If you move they will find you and it is irrelavent whether you are on the electoral roll or not, they will find you and you will get done. But, they can include other charges because you moved in the knowledge that you owed for a license.
You can pay it by Direct Debit which works out a bit more expensive but you'd have the peace of mind that you are covered. It can be taken from your account every month or every quarter and in extreme hardship every week.
We are on disability benefit and live on a very low income but we pay it by Direct Debit because we would curl up and die at the shame of being done for something so trivial as a tv license. Part of the reason the license fee increases as often as it does is due to people who don't pay for one.
Do yourself a huge favour and go and get one as soon as possible....it's definately not worth losing your freedom over is it!!!

If you're going to pay just one person, pay the government. They always find a way.

Anyway, I must be another loser on my high horse because I too hope they throw the book at you.

You'll have a use for books without that tv licence...

They will give you a short period of time then stick it to you,the fines can be very heavy. Its the same with anything you have it,you pay for it.Your choice, its cheaper to pay than moonlight flit.We always lived by the old ways, which were ,if you cannot afford it dont have it--simple.There is no way you can disappear without money in this electronic age,you only get away if they make no effort to find you.

The householder at the address is fined. They know where you live. You can't use the defence of "we are going to get a licence". You must already HAVE a licence. It's the LAW. Moving somewhere else will not help. They will come and find you. They know the addresses which are not registered. I hope they throw the book at you, personally.

They will post a fine through the door. If your on the electrol roll then your name is easy to find.
If your moving soon and very soon then dont worry.
But if you do the decent thing and buy a licence then you can exchange it to your new address.

If you are not entered on the electoral roll as living at that address and you do indeed move on, then you may well escape prosecution. The chances are, however, that your landlord will have entered your names on the form a few weeks ago, as failure to do so is a criminal offence.

I'm speechless. Is there a TV license fee in UK???
WHY?
What's the lame excuse that the government use to support this?

I am afraid that if you are on the Electoral list as living at your address then yes they will find your details.
