Tamika and Lydia were making hair ribbons to sell at a crafts fair.Tamika cut seven segments from onne length of ribbon and had 2 feet left over.Lydia said "im cutting segments twice as long as yours.If you length of the ribbon had been just 1 foot longer.i could have cut four segments from it. From their conversation determine how long Tamika's and Lydia's segments were.

Nine Square tiles are used to cover a floor that covers 36 square feet.
Write and solve an equation to find the dimensions of the tiles.

If you cant help me with both problems can u at least help me with at least one of them i would really appreciated .

r = length of uncut ribbon
x = length of T's segments

"T cut 7 segments from ribbon and had 2 ft left over"
r = 7x + 24

2x = length of L's segments
"If ribbon had been 1 foot longer, I could have cut 4 segments":
r+12 = 4*(2x)
r = 8x - 12

7x + 24 = 8x - 12
x = 36

T cuts 36-inch segments, L cuts 72-inch segments.

Guess I should have kept the units in feet.
T cuts 3-ft segments, L cuts 6-ft segments, the original ribbon was 23 ft long.

36ft²/9tiles = 4ft²/tile
each tile must cover 4ft²
one side of tile is √4 = 2ft

T = length of Tamika's segment
L = length of Lydia's segment

i'm cutting segments twice as long as yours

1) L = 2T

Length of Tamika's ribbon = 7T + 2

If you length of the ribbon had been just 1 foot longer.i could have cut four segments from it

2) 7T + 2 + 1 = 4L

Substitute for L from eq 1

7T + 3 = 4(2T)
7T + 3 = 8T
3 = T

and

L = 2T = 2(3) = 6

Whatever the shape of the floor (even if not a square)

9x^2 = 36
x^2 = 4
x = 2

original ribbon is 7t + 2 feet
Lydia could have cut four segments out of 3 feet, so hers are 3/4 foot long
Tamika's are then 3/8 foot long
3/8 * 7 = 21/8 = 3 3/8 feet (Tamika's segment)
Lydia's segment is two feet as stated in the problem

9x^2 = 36 sq ft
x^2 = 4 sq ft
x = 2 ft
the tiles are 2 ft x 2 ft
